A Project Life… memory keeping!

Happy New Year!!  I’m so excited for 2012, and can’t wait to do the sessions I already have booked for this year!

In the last few weeks I’ve discovered Pinterest  have you discovered it yet?  OHHH…. MYYYYY…. GOSH!!  I was trying to describe it to a friend, and I said think of having all your gorgeous magazines in one place AND organized!  Swooooon.  I get lost there sometimes.

At one point in my obsession browsing  I came across a pin about Project Life by Becky Higgins… so I jumped over there to see what that was all about.  It’s a wonderful scrapbooking  memory keeping product.  I scrapped for years (insert here before I became a Mom).  It combined two of my great loves photography, and crafts.  I was a Creative Memories girl for years, and I still have a closet full of their stuff in my basement.

Then I was introduced to digital scrapbooking which I would do, but never print the pages, so I have them all in my computer.  I loved digital b/c you could customize the size of your images & embellishments… required less planning with the photo lab.

However, now I’m faced with having a ton of printed photos sitting in a closet in my basement in boxes.  Enter Project Life.  I can COMBINE the two!!  I’m beside myself excited.

This is my first digital page using a
Project Life layout… I’m waiting on the hybrid scrapbooking products for now.

25 Day Project

I’ve attempted a 365 day photo project (where you take a photo a day for a year)… I think I made it to April (which is pretty good for me).

Anyway… over on pinterest (if you haven’t checked this site out yet… OH BE STILL MY HEART). It’s like having ALL your favorite lifestyle, homemaking, etc magazines, websites all in one place.  So fun!  You set up bulletin boards of your ‘favorite things’ by category.  I set up some for color the other day… for example, this is my ‘pink swoon’ board… such sweet bliss!

So I was on pinterest, and came across the 25 days of Christmas photo challenge… so for the first 25 days of December I’ll follow these guidelines, and post a photo here & on my FB page… Join  me if you want & upload your photo to my FB page… all 25 days, or just a few.

Why I love what I do…

My goal in every session is to capture the subject…. not make the subject look like what I think he/she or they SHOULD look like.  That’s why I love my job!  I’ve had sessions on lots of different venues/locales, and I’ve loved them all.

This past Sunday I had the privilege of doing senior yearbook session with one of my best friends sons.  When I met my friend this young man was 2… as I’m gazing through my viewfinder at him during our session I can’t help but remember back to those pre-school pictures she showed me of him all those years ago… I turned to her and said “I can’t believe I’m taking his SENIOR pictures!”

Another thing that made this session unique is that sitting this guy in a meadow of wildflowers wouldn’t fly… he wanted graffiti! He took me to a skate park… I’ve never been in a skate park before in my life.  I was so excited.  I loved the idea of doing something urban, with gritty edits that I knew would just fit HIM!  drew1

And a nice non-graffiti for Mom!

Don’t get me wrong I still love my meadows, and foliage, but it’s so much fun to do something different once in awhile!
